1. Why We Do This Work:

— All National Climate Assessment Authors Dismissed (and keep working)

— Rutgers Profs Organize Universities - Attack on One is Attack on All

— Balcony Solar Takes Off in Germany (and Utah?) Why not Here?

2. California’s Cap and Trade — Trump, Reform

California’s important and much-debated Cap and Trade program got the Trump blast recently. Now it is up for renewal and possible reform in Sacramento. Meredith Fowlie (Energy Institute @Haas) weighs in on how carbon pricing gets personal. Also Politico’s “Lawmakers Are Ready to Get Down and Dirty with C&T.”

3. How You Can Get Your Hands on CA Climate Bond $$$

$10 Billion for climate resilience! Very competitive, particularly after the LA wildfires. Our good friends at Bay Nature have it all figured out for you in the latest issue of their excellent Bay Nature.

4. Berkeley Leads Racial Equity and Climate Justice Report

Margaretta Lin at the IURD (CED) and partners are developing the Racial Equity and Climate Justice special report for the big CA 5th Climate Change Assessment program. Planning a hybrid public launch event June 2nd 2-4 pm on campus. Stay tuned for more.

5. Climate Tech and AI Showcase

Missed it during busy SF Climate Week? Here are highlights from the two-day Climate Tech and AI Symposium hosted at Bakar Climate Labs by BCL and BIDMaP.

6. Thank you Michael Wehner

Before retiring last week after 40 years of fighting the good climate/energy fight at LBNL, Michael sent over two special issues of the journal he founded. Advances in Statistical Climatology, Meteorology and Oceanography

7. New Climate Job Opportunities (Goldman and Berkeley Law)

The Berkeley Carbon Trading Project is recruiting a part-time Project Scientist focused on wetland restoration and policy/market engagement. See the job description and apply here. At the same time, CLEE at Berkeley Law is looking for a Research Fellow on Electricity Affordability and another Research Fellow for the new Energy Transition project.

8. 14th Annual Big Ideas PItch Day TOMORROW WEDS MAY 7

Pitches and prizes — 4 pm to 7 pm at Blum Hall B100. This year, introducing “The Biggie” a new trophy for their $20,000 Grand Prize winner. RSVP here.

9. Trains Are Good, Electric Trains are VERY Good.

Berkeley Engineering’s Samuel Cliff and Joshua Apte are out with a new study showing Caltrain’s big and long-awaited switch from diesel to electric is cutting carcinogenic black carbon 89% at the San Francisco station. Think about those neighbors! And passengers waiting to board! (Caltrain project funded by Cap and Trade.)

10. A Fast, Cost-Effective and Sustainable Fire Recovery in Los Angeles

Cool new CLEE report diving into the "all-electric OR duel-fuel rebuild" question confronting all CA wildfire recoveries.

11. BCCN Pitches Berkeley to 400 people in a Bar (SF Climate Week)

Thanks to CITRIS, Bakar and all the organizers.
